Fab food on the Eisteddfod

2 August 2015

Feeling peckish on the Maes? Not to worry, there’s plenty of everything, for every taste at Pentref Bwyd.

Welsh food

The Eisteddfod is all about the Welsh culture. And what is Wales without its food? You have plenty of choice to indulge in some proper Welsh dishes here.

Meat-eaters  can enjoy a delicious minted lamb burger ( £4.00) from ‘Eidion Ac Oen’, or a pulled pork roll from ‘Porc Rhost’ (£6.00) or even a roast dinner (£7.50) from the homemade Welsh food stand, ‘Bwyd Bethan’.

‘Sgod a Sglod’ is a good old chippy where you can have freshly battered cod & chips (£6.50).

‘Crempogau’ has adapted the traditional French ‘crepe’ to Wales. A ‘crepe’ is like a pancake but much thinner and therefore larger. You can have both savoury and sweet crepes for a price ranging from £4.00 to £6.50.

International food

If you want to travel over lunch, Pentref Bwyd has plenty to offer on the international side of things.

Get caliente and head south with a paella (£6.00) or tapas (one for £1, 5 for £4) from ‘The Spanish Buffet’ , or some Mexican street food from ‘El Salsa’, including burritos (small, £5.50, large, £6.50), quesadillas (£7.00) or nachos (cheesy, £5.00, loaded £7.00).

Grab a pizza with prices ranging from £6 to £10 and see the pizzas cook in a proper stone oven!

If you want to spice things up, you can head to ‘Cyrri Indiaidd’ for some Indian samosas (£2.50) or a refreshing mango lassi (£2.50).

Mr and Mrs Jones from Llanfair Caereinion, were enjoying quite a mix! Mexican street food and a roast dinner. They both said the food was really good (their favourite so far is the paella from ‘The Spanish Buffet’ which they had yesterday) and at average prices.

“It’s been really good for me,” Mrs Jones said, “because I’m following a special diet for health reasons, and I’ve found plenty of choice to suit me. You don’t always find that at events like these.”

Kelly and Rhian from Anglesey were sitting in the sun, enjoying the weather…and a minted lamb burger and a paella! They thought the food was great even though it was a little expensive.

“It’s alright for a one off time though!”, Rhian said.

The Hughes family, from Newtown, are Eisteddfod regulars. Alun, Llinos and Rhodri were having a quick lunch before setting off again. They thought the food was very good, but expensive for what it was. But they agreed that festivals were always expensive anyway. “No time” to make a packed lunch though, they happily eat at Pentref Bwyd when they come

“It’s part of the culture,” Alun said, “you’re here to discover all these new things and the food is one of them.”
